What is the glycaemic index of your diabetic rice?
Published tests on Telangana Sona report a GI of about 51.5 and 51.72. Foods with a GI of 55 or less count as low GI, while regular white rice is often in the 70s.
Which rice variety is used?
Telangana Sona, also known as RNR 15048. It was developed by Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), released in 2015 and notified in the Gazette of India on 29 June 2016.
Is diabetic rice the same as sugar free rice?
No rice is truly sugar free, because all rice is mostly starch. “Sugar free rice” is a market name for low GI rice. We sell it with its tested GI figure so your label stays accurate.
Can people with diabetes eat this rice?
Low GI rice can be a better choice than high GI white rice, but portion size, what it is eaten with and each person’s health all matter. Anyone managing diabetes should follow advice from their doctor or dietitian.
Does diabetic rice taste different from white rice?
Not much. Telangana Sona is a short slender white rice that cooks soft, light and non-sticky, so it can be used in place of everyday rice without changing recipes.
